It’s not a requirement to spend a lot of money or do anything fancy to enjoy Father’s Day. Show your dad a good time by planning a family picnic at one of the many New Braunfels parks instead. You can customize your menu completely and have some fresh air at the same time! Go for a stroll at the park before or after or let your dad watch his grandkids play. While making your plans for the perfect picnic, consider these nearby locations.
Cypress Bend Park
One of the larger parks in New Braunfels, Cypress Bend Park covers 15 acres of land. Therefore, you should have no problem finding a picnic spot for Father’s Day. There are picnic tables and plenty of benches if you do choose to sit down. There is also a spacious pavilion with a group BBQ pit – (but expect it to be incredibly popular on Father’s Day with everyone looking to grill.)
After you eat, let the kids play on the playscape or use the swings. If you have a family that loves to play sports, there’s plenty of open spaces to play a family game of tag, football, or catch. The horseshoe pits are also lots of fun. Best of all, this New Braunfels park is along the Guadalupe River, which means you can all wear your swimsuits under your clothing and go for a dip after or just go fishing – a dad’s favorite pastime.
Hinman Island Park
With 10 acres of land, Hinman Island Park is just a little smaller than Cypress Bend Park. Instead of being by the Guadalupe River, this park sits along the Comal River, giving you the chance to fish, go tubing, swim, snorkel, or even scuba dive. It is incredibly easy to access to the river, and you can take advantage of the picnic tables, BBQ grills, and benches you expect. After eating, let the kids have fun with the playscapes while the adults take a leisurely stroll along the walking and jogging paths. With all the trees lining the way, there are plenty of shady spots. Therefore, you don’t have to worry about getting overheated.
Prince Solms Park
Prince Solms Park is actually pretty close to Hinman Island Park, but it is separate. It’s the largest of the three with 19.1 acres, meaning you are pretty likely to find a good picnic spot even on Father’s Day. Just be sure to bring some blankets to spread out. You get access to the Comal River, and this is the ideal park if you have an active group who will want to play some games after. Between the disc golf course, tennis courts, and basketball court, you have plenty of options for family bonding. This is also the park that houses everyone’s favorite City Tube Chute, the amazing water slide that takes tubers around the dam!
