The New Braunfels Railroad Museum has grown quite a bit over the years. It started in 1986, when a train depot was converted into the museum. After it was built, the organizers aggressively went after artifacts. They obtained a Missouri Pacific Caboose in 1987 and restored it. Then, the organizers added a 0-6-OT Porter oil fired steam locomotive in 1993 and a 1922 Pullman dining car in 2008. While these are the major pieces, the organizers also added additional artifacts over the years.
The museum doesn’t just offer a wide variety of artifacts, though. It also has some special events, including Kids’ Fun Day and the Annual Train Show Jamboree. Let’s take a closer look at both events.
Kids’ Fun Day
Kids’ Fun Day is always a popular event at the museum. It is held the first and third Saturday of every month and lasts from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Kids under the age of 18 get in for free. During fun day, the kids get to be junior engineers. They can look at models and build their own using LEGO pieces. This is just some of what the kids get to enjoy.
29th Annual Train Show Jamboree
The New Braunfels Railroad Museum also has two train shows each year. The next one is the 29th Annual Train Show Jamboree on April 8th and 9th. It will take place at the New Braunfels Civic Center. Expect to see some amazing exhibits at this train show. There will also be drawings, a silent auction, museum store, and more. Bring the entire family to the event. It is sure to be a hit for people of all ages.
When you visit this museum, you will likely reflect on how people travel. At one time, people had to take to the rails, but now you can travel in vehicles that are outfitted with the latest technology and features. Nissan of New Braunfels in New Braunfels, Texas, has everything you could possibly want for a comfortable and fun travel experience. You will feel far removed from the days of the rails when you slide behind the wheel of a new Nissan.
