Gruene Hall is definitely a landmark that all New Braunfels residents have driven by at least once. This is actually the oldest dance hall in the state, and it is still living up to its traditions. If you are from the area, it is likely your parents – and even grandparents – danced here when they are younger. You can all still attend live music, whether or not you plan on dancing. Best of all, most of the shows at Gruene Hall in June are completely free! You just have to buy whatever you plan on eating and drinking and get ready for a night of fun. Here are just a few of the highlights; check out the hall’s website for a full calendar.
Friday Afternoon Club
As always, the long-honored tradition of a Friday Afternoon Club at Gruene Hall is free. This is actually the 19th year that this club has been going on, and it always features a happy hour with amazing prices, prizes, and a live broadcast from KNBT 92.1 FM Radio, your local New Braunfels radio station. Each week also has its own special guest interview. I’ve seen interviews with Ray Benson, Delbert McClinton, and more.
James McMurtry on June 2nd
James McMurtry will be playing live music at Gruene Hall on the 2nd, and tickets are only $12, a great price for a live show. This singer-songwriter has built up a huge following and has even been nominated for multiple Americana Music Awards.
Casey Donahew Band on June 3rd
The following night at 9 PM, the Casey Donahew Band will be performing, and tickets are $25. You will be treated to your favorites from the band along with some new songs you may not have heard before.
Learn to Swing Dance
Gruene Hall doesn’t just provide entertainment. They also make sure you are confident in your dance skills. The occasional Swing Dance Lessons, for example, will take place on June 6th, a Tuesday, from 6 to 7 pm. The class costs $8, and you don’t need a partner to attend. Later that night, there will be swing music performed by Two Tons of Steel, starting at 8:30. That only has a $5 cover charge.
Free Concerts at Gruene Hall
